Our English språkcafé

Hello everyone!

I would like to inform you that we are opening a new språkcafé in March - on Monday evenings we will be speaking English.

The first session takes place on March 23rd at 19:00.

Why an English språkcafé in Sweden?

After years of focusing solely on learning Swedish, which is necessary to function normally in Sweden, I realized that I was neglecting my English. Also, now that they see that I can speak Swedish, Swedes avoid speaking English with me - it's actually the opposite effect compared to when I came to Sweden. So I simply have no opportunity to speak English anymore.

My English is still very good, I watch YouTube videos in English all the time, I read almost everything in English, and I hardly notice any difference between it and my native language. But I don't speak it, so my speaking skills are deteriorating. Sometimes I struggle to find the right words. And I'm not the only one. I met people who told me that they lost their English completely after they came to Sweden, as Swedish took over.

I don't want that to happen to my English. I've put a lot of effort into learning it for many years, and besides, good English is an absolute must in today's world. That is why I intend to keep it alive by speaking it once a week.

So whatever the reason, whether you are learning English and need a place to practice speaking it, or you want to keep your English skills at a good level like me, you are most welcome to join me.

What will our språkcafé look like?

We have practically everything ready. Zoom is there, we can use the discussion questions from the website because I write them in both English and Swedish. The only difference is that there will be no Kahoot!-quiz – I simply don't have time for that, developing Swedish materials for the website is still my priority.

You can 👉subscribe here if you want. And please spread the word if you know anyone who might want to join. Thank you. :)

I look forward to speaking English with you.

Best regards

Ivana
