Two college girls were in the dormitory talking about what to cook for dinner.
"We could cook some sausages," said the first one.
"Okay, I like sausages, but I've never cooked them. Is it just to dip them in hot water?"
"Yes," said the first one. "But you have to make sure to cut off both ends first. About a centimeter long."
"Okay," said the second one. "I didn't know about that. And why does one have to do that?" she asked.
"I don't know, but my mom always did that, and she taught me how to do it. I'll ask her next week when I'm visiting."
So the next week, when she was visiting her family, the girl asked her mom about it: "Mom, why does one have to cut off the ends of sausages before cooking them?"
"Well... I don't really know, that's just how I learned it from my mom. But you could call your grandma and ask her, I'm also curious why now that you mention it."
So the girl calls her grandmother. "Hey grandma, I was just talking to mom about how we cook sausages in our family... we always cut the ends off, why does one do that?"
"Hey honey, how nice that you're home... well, you surprised me, I just learned it from my mom so I taught it to your mom that way. But I guess you could ask your grand-grandmother... by the way, are you planning on visiting her while you're here?"
"Yes, I'm actually going to visit her tomorrow. Thanks, Grandma."
So the next day when visiting her grandmother at the nursing home, the girl couldn't wait to ask her: "Gran-gran, can you please tell me why we have this special way of cooking sausages in our family, by cutting off the ends first..."
Her grand-grandmother looked at her in shock and said: "Haven't you guys gotten a bigger pot yet?!?"
