We're going to go through the same lesson about the two subgroups of strong verbs once again – but through some practical examples.

You need to know the different tenses and forms of these verbs, which you can find in the first workshop we did on that topic, in the correct answers. Click here to go to the workshop.

Just a quick reminder of the rules:

1) The first subgroup of strong verbs we learned about is the one where the verb stem contains a long i followed by 1 consonant. That i changes to:

  • e in the preteritum

  • remains i in the perfekt

i → e, i

att skrika, skrek, har skrikit

2) The second subgroup of strong verbs we learned about is the one where the verb stem contains a short i followed by 2 consonants. That i changes to:

  • a in the preteritum

  • u in the perfekt

i → a, u

att finna, fann, har funnit

3) Their imperative is formed by taking -a from their infinitives, and their presens tense by adding the suffix -er to the imperative.

att skrika - Skrik!, skriker

att finna - Finn!, finner
